The Paradox of Sworn Eyewitness Testimony on Human Levitation and Flight
Following the publication of my article, Surprising Epileptic Semiology in Seventeenth-Century Beatification Testimonies: A Neuropsychiatric Analysis of St. Joseph of Copertino in Epilepsy & Behavior Reports, I have developed a broader interdisciplinary research program exploring the relationship between medicine, religion, and history.
Building upon that work, I recently submitted a funding proposal to the John Templeton Foundation to investigate an unprecedented corpus of sworn seventeenth-century eyewitness testimony using methods drawn from neurology, psychiatry, history, statistics, theology, and religious studies.
Professor Carlos M. N. Eire (Yale University) and Professor Torrance Kirby (McGill University) have agreed to participate as scholarly collaborators and advisors should the proposal be funded.
